Debbie Crosser - Manager Emery Place Senior LivingDebbie Crosser

I am very excited to have opened a new and very successful community for our elderly almost six years ago. Our accomplishments at Emery Place have been very rewarding to watch as we have grown over the years. We have been voted “Best of Assisted Living” by Senior Advisors, each year we have been open and in 2017 we were awarded by the Iowa Assisted Living Association, “Property or the Year.” What a wonderful feeling to be associated with an award-winning community!

I lived in Robins for 20 years and loved raising my children there. I still have family living in Robins and love being back in the community. I have two children; Andy, who graduated from the University of Iowa and is now living in Washington State and operating his own business. My daughter, Callie graduated from UNI in 2018 and received her master’s in education in 2020. We had a very busy year as she married her husband and I welcomed a wonderful son-in-law. They recently moved to Kanas City where they look forward to starting their new careers as newlyweds.

In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, fishing, boating and spending time outdoors at our cabin with my family and friends. I enjoy watching and attending sports, especially the Hawkeyes and the Cubbies! The Chiefs and Steelers rank high up there too!

I retired from American Airlines after 26 years and I love that I can bring my customer service and management experience to Emery Place. Filling Emery Place with wonderful staff who will bring a smile to the resident’s face is worth a thousand words! I love meeting new residents and families along the way and helping them start this new journey in life. We are all committed to creating a warm and loving environment for our residents who live here and call Emery Place home!

Melissa Bronemann BSN, RN
Health Care Coordinator

As the Health Care Coordinator at Emery Place, I bring 14 years of experience in health care, starting as an environmental services aide and then transitioning to a certified nurse aid, I found that I had a passion for caring for other people. In 2009 I started my adventure in nursing school and graduated with my degree in practical nursing. After graduation I ventured into the hospital setting and worked there until starting nursing school for my associate degree. In 2016 I graduated from Kirkwood Community College with my associate degree in applied science, this allowed me to become a registered nurse. At the beginning of 2020 I graduated from Capella University with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

I live in Monticello with my husband Ryan and our three children Brennan, Brynnlee, and Braelynn. We also have two dogs named Chloe and Mia. In my free time I enjoy time with family and friends as well as boating, fishing, and going on walks or bike rides.

One area that has a special place in my heart is those who have dementia or memory loss. Both of my grandmother’s had memory loss, one had Alzheimer’s and the other was diagnosed with Creutzfeldt Jacob’s Disease. My grandma’s were my best friends when I was growing up, and to lose them was very hard. I want to assist each resident here to function at their highest ability and live the best life possible while with us here at Emery!

Elizabeth Pierce RN
Assistant Health Care Coordinator

After high school, I attended Southwestern Community College where I first graduated with my LPN. After getting my LPN, I began working in Assisted Living and Memory Care in West Des Moines, Iowa. A couple short years later I decided I would go back to Southwestern Community College for my RN. Once I graduated with my RN, I began working as a Labor and Delivery Nurse! Although I loved helping to deliver babies, I found myself missing the connections and relationships I was able to build with my families and residents.

In my spare time I enjoy swimming, listening to music, playing with my boys, and anything involving the Iowa State Cyclones. I love football and basketball season the most and do my best to not miss a game! I married into a Hawkeye loving family and we now are living in the heart of Hawkeye Country, so it has been quite an adjustment. Maybe one day I’ll be brave enough to wear my cyclone gear around the area.

We had begun talking about moving over to this side of town from Des Moines a while back because we were itching to be closer to my husband’s family and all of the cousins to play with! It was then I found an opening here at Emery Place. We are currently in Iowa City living with my wonderful In-laws until we find our perfect house. We have two boys (Evan and Bennett) and a third boy expected to arrive in November! I am so excited to be here at Emery and look forward to working and getting to know you and your loved ones well!

Community Relations Coordinator

I live in Vinton with my husband, Scott. We have two grown boys, Nic, 31 and Tony, 28. The past five years have been very exciting for my husband and me, as we added two daughter-in-laws and four grandchildren! Wow! Who knew grandchildren were so much fun?! I am loving every moment of time with them!

I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in graphic design and marketing. For the past 30 years, I have been in marketing and sales positions. Because I love caring for people, I considered changing my field and going into nursing. In November 2014, I completed a Certified Nursing Assistant course and I was on my way. Then I heard about Emery Place opening in the spring of 2015 and I knew that I had found the best of both worlds!

I adored my grandparents and now that my parents are in their late 80’s, I want to involve myself in a career that gives exceptional care to our elderly community. I feel that the Emery Place is a perfect fit for me, combining my past experience with the opportunity to care for our residents.

My husband, Nathan, and I live in Marion with our son, Garrett. As a family, we enjoy the Iowa State Cyclones, and spending time with our extended families. We have several nieces and nephews that we enjoy visiting as well!

I began my career with Emery Place after the passing of my grandmother. I miss her stories, hugs and her sense of humor. She always had memories to share about living on the lake in Minnesota. Summer visits to the lake are a cherished memories.

I joined Emery Place in August 2015, as a Resident Assistant. Following my role as Resident Assistant, I was able to spend time with residents and families as the Life Enrichment Coordinator. In my role as Life Enrichment Coordinator, I was awarded the 2017 Iowa Assisted Living Association “Hero Of the Year” award.

In, January of 2018, I accepted the position of Administrative Assistant. As Administrative Assistant, I enjoy greeting our visitors and assisting residents and families with any needs they may have. My favorite part about Emery Place is our residents, it is a pleasure to spend my days doing what I love with people that I care about!

I graduated from University of Iowa in 2018, and worked in the human service field for two years as a social worker, working specifically with individuals who had mental health needs. I am passionate about working with others, and when I heard about Emery Place in the fall of 2019 I knew it would be a great fit and I would be able to continue to work with wonderful people!

I am very excited to be the Life Enrichment Coordinator here at Emery Place, and I enjoy playing games, being creative and spending time with our wonderful residents. I have met so many wonderful people while at Emery, and I feel lucky to be a part of the team here at Emery Place!

Jasminka Sarajlic
Culinary Coordinator

I came to the United States in March, 1996, as a refugee from Bosnia. The civil war in Bosnia made me leave my country of origin. Coming to the United States was much better for me. I started my life here with hard work, lots of hope, and a lot of help from good people.

I am a mother to three children, two girls and one boy. I am also a grandmother to my grandson, Aiden, who I absolutely adore! My passion is gardening and crocheting.

With the help of Habitat for Humanity, I helped build my own home. That was something I never thought would happen. The Cedar Rapids community gave me a lot and I am forever grateful.

Taking care of the residents at Emery Place by cooking tasty, healthy meals, makes me very happy. I feel useful and accomplished. I feel I am giving back to my community.
