I am very excited to be the Manager at Emery Place Assisted Living and Memory Care, an award-winning Community for the past three years!
I lived in Robins for 20 years and loved raising our children there. I still have family living in Robins and love being back in the community. I have two children; Andy, who graduated from the University of Iowa and is now living in Washington State and my daughter Callie, is a senior at UNI and will graduate in May. She plans to move to Kanas City to start a career in Marketing and Public Relations.
In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, fishing and spending time outdoors at our cabin with my family and friends.
I retired from American Airlines after 26 years of employment and I look forward to bringing my customer service and management experience to Emery Place. Filling Emery Place with wonderful staff who will bring a smile to the resident’s face is worth a thousand words! I love meeting new residents and families along the way and helping them start this new journey in their life. We are all committed to creating a warm and loving environment for our residents who live here and call Emery Place home! Please stop by Emery Place and take a tour!
After high school, I attended University of Iowa to study dance for two years. I then transferred to NICC in Calmar where I changed my major to nursing and moved back home with my parents. During nursing school, I worked as a CNA at a nursing home and taught dance classes in Oelwein. I have always appreciated and had so much respect for the elderly population. Working at the nursing home made me love caring for them and helped me realize what field of nursing I’m most interested in.
Once I graduated I moved to North Liberty and started working in a nursing home in Coralville as an RN, I then decided to switch up the setting a little bit and try assisted living. I’m so glad I gave assisted living a chance! I really enjoy the more homelike setting that nursing homes aren’t able to offer. I am so happy and excited to be at Emery Place to help care for all the residents!
On a personal note… I LOVE to dance, do yoga, and go shopping. I also like being outside and enjoying the sun and warm weather. I’m originally from Oelwein, where my mom, dad, older brother Matt, and dog Remmy live. Growing up with an older brother that was in every sport and a dad as the wrestling coach, I’ve learned to enjoy watching sports. Although I’ll watch any sport (except basketball), I have always loved the Cubbies! I look forward to baseball season and going to Cubs games every year.
Community Relations Coordinator
I live in Vinton with my husband, Scott. We have two grown boys, Nic, 27 and Tony, 24. The past few years have been very exciting for my husband and me, as we added two daughter-in-laws and three grandchildren! Wow! Who knew grandchildren were so much fun?! I am loving every moment of time with them!
I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in graphic design and marketing. For the past 30 years, I have been in marketing and sales positions. Because I love caring for people, I considered changing my field and going into nursing. In November 2014, I completed a Certified Nursing Assistant course and I was on my way. Then I heard about Emery Place opening in the spring of 2015 and I knew that I had found the best of both worlds!
I adored my grandparents and now that my parents are in their 80’s, I want to involve myself in a career that gives exceptional care to our elderly community. I feel that the Emery Place is a perfect fit for me, combining my past experience with the opportunity to care for our residents.
My husband, Nathan, and I live in Marion with our son, Garrett. Garrett is thirteen and keeps us very busy with school and sporting events. As a family, we enjoy the Iowa State Cyclones, spending time with our extended families and participating in scavenger hunts. We are the 2014 and 2016 Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival Medallion winners and look forward to this event each spring.
Prior to Emery Place, I had the pleasure of teaching pre-school children for 10 years. It was an honor to shape the minds of the next generation. During these years, I also spent time volunteering in our school district with our PTO and other school events.
Emery Place is an amazing community and I am blessed to be a part of it. I joined Emery Place in August 2015, as a Resident Assistant, and have been in my current position as Life Enrichment Coordinator, since November 2015. I enjoy being creative in my roll, finding new activities of interest, and spending one on one time with residents. Creating new ways to play “classic” games is always a lot of fun. I am so proud to call Emery Place my “second” home.
I am from Wisconsin originally and moved to Iowa 36 years ago to pursue my career at the University of Iowa where I worked for over 34 years. I married a Cedar Rapidian 34 years ago and we have three sons, 30, 27 and 27. They are all Xavier graduates and they all live and work locally; two are married and one has two children. We moved to Robins in 1992 and have loved raising our family here.
I am honored and very fortunate to be a part of the Emery Place Community as the Life Enrichment Coordinator. I have always felt a pull back to our aging population and am very grateful for the opportunity to share some of my ideas and creativity with them. I love to decorate, cook, bake, garden and craft. I hope to incorporate some of these into the everyday activities of the Emery Residents.
I live in Marion with my wife Carol and our three children, Nate, 23, Suzanne, 19, and Kelly who is 16 years old. We have two dogs, Murphy (Schnauzer /Cocker Spaniel mix) and Roxie (Golden Retriever).
I graduated from The University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science degree. After spending several years in Regulation and Compliance in Telecommunications I left that industry and changed carrier paths. Since 2009, I have been a Home Improvement Contractor. I am also a Boys and Girls Middle School Soccer Coach for Linn Mar School District.
I joined Emery Place in May of 2016 and love it! The residence here have so much to offer and I have made many great friends here at Emery Place. In my spare time I can be found outdoors with family and friends, possibly fishing, listening to music or spending time working on a classic cars.
